It is vital to maintain the safety competencies of the MHI Vestas workforce. We wanted to help MHI Vestas break new ground with a training app for a post-COVID-19 world.
Employees can utilize this pocket-sized learning app while commuting, on weather days or at home on the couch. In other words, Safety’N’Mind puts the employees in control of their own time and training.
While learning, gaming, and having fun, you earn points. These points provide access to a virtual Turbine Shop with MHI Vestas’ wind turbine portfolio. Using the points earned throughout the app, you can upgrade to more advanced virtual turbines – a progression that follows MHI Vestas’ portfolio of turbine innovations. This means that employees get to know even more about the legacy of their workplace while learning.

Training for a post-COVID-19 world
With the new digital training app, employees can refresh their mandatory training without having to all meet up in the real world.
The Safety’N’Mind app makes training at a distance possible – even in the middle of a viral pandemic.
Time is often the most essential factor for not learning. Together with MHI Vestas, we created a digital learning game structured as microlearning in an app. It gives technicians the opportunity to learn in small bites when and where they have the time.
Technicians spend days on-site and hours on crew transfer vessels to and from offshore wind farms with no access to Wi-Fi. By utilising the many offline hours and time away from home, MHI Vestas avoids calling in for extra days in a classroom.
Wind turbine journey
While learning, technicians get to know MHI Vestas’ full wind turbine portfolio – and are thereby on the same historical and innovative journey as MHI Vestas.
The more points technicians earn while learning, the newer the turbine.
The training motivates technicians to refresh their knowledge through gamification, relatable storytelling, a conceptual frame around an offshore windfarm, bite size-learning and rewards – all designed to fit the pocket.
Just like a game, technicians can voluntarily play their way through six different tracks – topics and learning objectives that match the GWO Safety Training Refresher standards.
We developed the Safety’N’Mind app because we saw an opportunity to innovate within safety training. We believe this innovation adds demonstrable value to our training efforts and, ultimately, to our customers.
